About The Song: Tribute to Tom Petty. Inspired by the strength of my grandmother.
Riff with W Slide intro
My momma told when I was quite young
It’s up to you if you want more than crumbs
We’re all competing for some time at the dance
So take advantage when they give you a chance.
You got the others who will stand in your way
And slap you down if you got something to say
Chor:
You gotta stand your ground
Don’t let them put you down
Your heart is where it’s found
Some gonna push, some gonna shove … ‘cause life can sure get rough
Not many waiting just to open your door
You gotta really want it if you wanna get more
The world is waiting but you got to reach out
Stay in your corner or go figure it out?
Some folks are slow and hesitate
But to the party they will always be late
Chor:
You gotta stand your ground
Don’t let them put you down
Your heart is where it’s found
Some gonna push, some gonna shove … ‘cause life can sure get rough

About The Song: A metaphor about the challenges, seductions, negotiations and temptations in life.
Well I went downtown to local bar
Met a girl wants to be a star
And she could be,
she had every kind of quirk
She said big boy what do you think
You can sit right down and buy me a drink
And I said OK
is that the way it works?
Mandolin fill
Well she winked at me with her baby blues
Didn't take her long for her to break the news
Couldn't waste her time with each and every jerk
Told me she's working girl if I had the cash she'd take me round the world
I said hmm, so that's the way it works?
Chor
Yes there's some takin' and some givin'
But everybody's got to try to make a livin'
We're negotiating for the extra perks
But now I know, that that's the way it works
So I parked my backside on this stool
Where my honey’d taught me all the rules
I hear her talk to young boys and I smirk
Cause they don't know what they don't know
But she can teach 'em fast or she can teach 'em slow
She's experienced and that's the way it works
Chor
Yes there's some takin' and some givin'
But everybody's got to try to make a livin'
We're all negotiating for the extra perks
And now I know, that that's the way it works
--- Guitar Slide Release --
We'll I was young and now I'm old
But to this day my story's told
'Bout the day I went from a newbie to Turk
You start out fresh as a brand new coat of paint
At first you is and then you ain't
And then you know that that's the way it works
Chor
Yes there's some takin' and some givin'
But everybody's got to try to make a livin'
We're negotiating for the extra perks
But now I know, that that's the way it works
Yeah now I know the way the whole world works.
Said now I know, that that's the way it works
Mandolin out

About The Song: Ever had one of those days?
I met a southern girl
In a tiny southern town
I guess I couldn’t take all
The good things that I found
She wanted me to love her
And she wanted me to stay
But the walls were closin’ in
And I had to get away
I had a brand new job
Corner office lots of pay
They drove me in a limo
And they let me have my say
Then one day I was finished
And I knew I couldn’t stay
‘Cause the walls were closin' in
And I had to get away
Chor:
I had to get away ‘cause my collar’s gettin’ tight
My left is feelin’ left but my right ain’t feelin’ right
The twichin’ in my bones tells me that that it’s time for me to play
Cause the walls are closin’ in and I got to get away
-- Guitar Release -- (chorus cords)
I could go to Mexico
Or fly off to Japan
I’ll probably find success
Any place I land
I know it may sound crazy
But I’m gonna wanna to stay
‘Till the walls start closin’ in
And I have to get away
Chor:
I had to get away ‘cause my collar’s gettin’ tight
My left is feelin’ left but my right ain’t feelin’ right
The twichin’ in my bones tells me that that it’s time for me to play
Cause the walls are closin’ in and I got to get away
Yes, it’s a new adventure
And another place to stay
‘Till the walls start closin’ in
Then it’s time to get away

About The Song: Life put in perspective. True story - I was buying new orthotics for my shoes when a young man came out of the store with two new artificial legs. Kinda makes you grateful for your own circumstances. Also, thanks to my daughter Andrea for flying in and sharing the mic. It was fun.
Complaining 'bout the weather
And taking out the trash
Don't have a full time lover
Don't have a lot of cash
I drive a beat up Chevy
My future's lookin' lean
But yes I know my problems ....
Is someone else's dream
My clothes are not the latest
My cell phone's gettin' old
Apartment's not the greatest
Today's a little cold
I work too many hours and
Sometime my boss is mean
But yes I know my problems ....
Is someone else's dream
Chor:
Somewhere, somebody wants my problems
Cause they know that there's nothing here to lose
They couldn't understand why I'm complaining
They'd gladly trade their bare feet for my shoes
I need a better haircut
A better brand of beer
My pants are feeling tighter
The storm is getting near
The street lights should be brighter
Another plate of beans
But yes I know my problems ....
Are someone else's dream
Guitar Release here
Chor:
Somewhere, somebody wants my problems
Cause they know that there's nothing here to lose
They couldn't understand why I'm complaining
They'd gladly trade their bare feet for my shoes
I should stop complaining
But probably never will
Another cloudy day
Another stack of bills
Comparing me to many
I'm a man of means
And yes I know my problems ....
Are someone else's dream (repeat)

About The Song: Written to include some of my oldest and best friends.
I got nothing in my pockets
And I barely own the shirt on my back
I got a half a dozen memories
That tote around in a sack
And it even seems to seem that
There’s patches on my jeans where they lack
I musta had a dollar but
I really don’t remember when
I’ll have to write it down
The next time I see one again
It don’t happen very much but
somehow I find a buck now and then
Chor

Life should be easy (but it’s not) — () Shouted not sung

I know just what it takes
Sometimes you need a break

About The Song: Written to include some of my oldest and best friends.
Johnny put his top down
Cruising to the downtown
Blaring music JD played
Looking through his ice cool shades
Leather jacket velvet touch
Ladies had a huge crush
Always with an attitude
Extra special slick dude
Everybody wanna be … Johnny D
All the ladies everywhere
Run their fingers through his hair
All the kittys in the town
Couldn’t help but come around
Johnny’s like a James Bond
First he’s here and then he’s gone
Disappears without a sound
Foxes with this foxy hound
Everybody wanna be … Johnny D
Vocal Brk …..
Johnny’s dressed from head to toe
Only in the baddest clothes
Always hands out big cigars
Always drives a fancy car
Doesn’t matter where you are
Johnny’s like a movie star
Traded in his business suits
For lots of chicks and lots of loot
Guitar / Clav
Johnny’s friend was Frankie G
Both as smooth as they could be
Folks just said they can’t be tamed
‘Till Carolyn and Mary Jane
Put their big feet on the ground
Said it’s time to settle down
Now their glory days they find
Deep in the corners of their minds
Where.. Everybody wants to be Johnny D (and Frankie G) 2x

About The Song: Nobody gets it all.
The world’s become much quicker
Everybody wants it now
They don’t care if you’re busy
And, they’re not concerned with how
It’s all about their schedule
They never had a plan
And the fact they want it yesterday
Is squarely in your hands
Chor:
When they ask me to deliver
The only thing I ask
Do you want it good, do you want it cheap,
or do you want it fast (pick two)
They never want to sit down
And keep you in the loop
When they find that now it’s crunch time
They make you jump through hoops
Space here
There’re better ways to do things
Than being nonchalant
You can’t have everything
But you can get what you want
Chor:
When they ask me to deliver
The only thing I ask
Do you want it good, do you want it cheap,
or do you want it fast (pick two)
Break
Sometimes I think we’re all out of control –
Like when you can’t get what you want when you want it
You’re gonna explode

About The Song: I wrote this almost 50 years ago and recently updated and modernized it. Thanks again to my daughter Andrea for playing the flute part.
Flute Opening
Don’t watch the sea
As waves go by
Don’t count on me
to sit and cry
I’m sitting on an empty beach
Where dreams just go to die, but
I don’t care, I don’t care
You’ve left me now
Go on your way
Our love will come
Some other day
I thought we’d be together
That’s what you used to say, but
I don’t care. I don’t care
Flute release / Guitar
Empty promises
Are what you gave
There’s nothing left
For me to save
Our memories will whither
And slowly wash away, but
I don’t care, I don’t care
Flute release / Guitar /
Talking Part
It’s over now
we’re outta time
Thought I’d be crushed
But I don’t mind
I’m just the one you left behind
I’ve lost at love but I’ll keep trying
Our memories will quickly fade
You used me up
and then you walked away
It’s better now than if you stayed
but this time around
I just don’t care
By William “Delray” Floyd
About The Song: Love the feeling of the Blues.
Someday, you know you’re gonna need me
Someday, you’ll wake and wonder why
I know, today you don’t believe me
But someday girl you’re gonna cry
Chor
It may be weeks or it may be years
It may be heartache or it may be tears
You will be hurtin’ and I will be free
You’re laughing now but just wait and see
You think, us guys are all just playthings
You think, that we can all be replaced
But I know, you’re gonna feel the suffering
And I’ll see this look upon your face
Chor
It may be weeks or it may be years
It may be heartache or it may be tears
You will be hurtin’ and I will be free
You’re laughing now but just wait and see
Harp / Guitar BRK
Chor
It may be weeks or it may be years
It may be heartache or it may be tears
You will be hurtin’ and I will be free
You’re laughing now but just wait and see
Someday — Someday – Someday – We’ll be free

About The Song: Brenda, thanks for everything. Love ya.
Harp intro
Somehow I got lucky
The stars were aligned
The moonlight got crazy
The river did shine
The words were ejected
And you were my wife
That night on the Charles
With the love of my life
They thought we were crazy
Cause we were so young
We’d say enlightened
But they might say dumb
It wasn’t easy
But it was so right
The journey began
with the love of my life
Chor:
How did it happen?
Where did time go?
How did I find you?
Lord and, how did we know?
We did it together
We kept it so tight
I’m blessed you became
The love of my life
Guitar Release
And now that we’re older
With all that we did
Surrounded by memories
And beautiful kids
We’ve basked in the sunshine
And glowed in the night
I thank you for being
The love of my life

About The Song: A great friend who died way too soon.
He was as folksy as the earth
From the day of his birth
He’s a memory that’ll never go away
He was loved right to the end
By his family and his friends
And I think about him almost everyday
He was a kind and caring man
You always knew where he’d stand
and you knew that what you saw is what you’d get
He’d make promises you’d believe
And tell truths you could conceive
When he left, he left the world with no regrets
Chor
My friend Bob
My friend Bob
With a twinkle in his eye
and a bit of Irish pride
and a bigger heart than even his garage
Count on him to help you out
not the slightest bit of doubt
he’s the wild man in his jeep in camouflage
Chor
My friend Bob
My friend Bob
So we’ll raise our glasses up
Captain Morgan in our cup
to the heavens cause it’s now a better place
I’m sure he’s raising hell
but as near as I can tell
his God will have a smile upon his face
Chor
My friend Bob
